Positive reviews continue for The Last Ship as it docks in Northampton...

The Last Ship has continued its voyage having this week docked in Northampton at the Royal & Derngate Theatre. The reviews continue to be extremely positive as they have been in Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle. If you're quick you can still catch The Last Ship at the Royal & Derngate as it runs until Saturday, 28 April before moving on to Leeds...

The Northampton Chronicle commented: "The music contains some beautiful and haunting choral harmonies, which bring out the strength and unity of the shipyard community... The cast members are strong throughout, with great chemistry between former Emmerdale actress Charlie Hardwick as Peggy and Joe McGann as Jackie White. Notable for their brilliant vocals and heartfelt performances were Frances McNamee as Meg and Richard Fleeshman as Gideon - whose voice bears a striking resemblance to that of Sting."

On Stage Northants commented: "Surprisingly relevant to the current political climate, The Last Ship is rousing, with anthemic musical numbers sung in beautiful choral harmonies. Sting’s style is immediately apparent, but the tone is of sea-shanties and folk music, provided by the onstage band. It is wonderful to see a new British musical that isn’t purely jukebox in nature, and perhaps that will prove to be its making."

What's Good To Do commented: "This show opens like no other I have ever seen, the cast coming onto the stage in ones or twos interacting with the audience and each other. Before the lights are dimmed, your in. It surely is a magnificent show, the music and lyrics having been written by none other than Sting. I have nothing but admiration for the cast and all involved with this production, I was mesmerised from the start, it’s by far the most astonishing piece of musical theatre I have ever seen..."
